Dave,

To bad you aren't closer. I just got a 97 Prizm parts car with a good 1.6L motor and automatic tranny. It will surely be cheaper to find a used motor than pay for a rebuild, best of luck.

Can't you see it on the valve cover? There should be a label on the front of the valve cover saying 4AFE or 7AFE.
4AFE is 1.6 litre and 7AFE is 1.8.
You can see it in one of the pics in this thread:

Yes.

Check out toyodiy.com

Select the parts reference section on the left side and enter in your vin number there.

Dave,

The only thing I would think you could count on fitting for sure is a 4afe out of a 7th generation corrolla or prizm. As far as that goes, I think the 7afe would fit as well, but you need to make sure the motor mounts are the same. Are you using the same ECM or getting one with the donor motor?

I will add with the 7afe, there were a couple different distributors that I don't think the ECMs would swap on.

Chris

Under the hood (underside of the hood), there should be emissions labels affixed. If I remember correctly the engine code should appear there.
