USA Illumination/elec. Problems

I am trying to figure out why my son's dashboard lights won't work. He did some "wiring" for his amp and ever since then they haven't worked.

The bulbs are all good as well as the circuit board. I have already eliminated that.

Problem is, the harness that is supposed to have the juice for the dash is dead. However, I have found that when I turn on the switch for the lights, the juice shows up on the high beam harness. I figured maybe the wires for both got crossed (from the sheaths frying and fusing together), so I started checking the wires out. Problem is, the pair for the dash feed goes to the driver's side and down, the pair for the high beams goes to the right.

I am at a loss at where to check next. Am I wrong to assume that the high beam circuit does NOT share the same juice coming from the switch? Or does it?

I am hoping that someone here might be able to chat about this here, or on Facebook or Skype. I am not sure if I can post the schematic for the wiring, so you could see what I am referring to. Nope, I can't upload a pic., it wants a "URL."

Thanks.

Always go back to what was done last before the problem. I'll bet he hooked up a wire wrong on the radio/amp connectors and created the problem.

+1. Chances are that he's connected the remote wire from the amp to the ground wire of the stereo harness. Either that or the dimmer rheostat has short-circuited.

I have the dimmer switch unplugged but don't seem to be getting juice there.

The dimmer rheostat is located on the rear of the dimmer switch. You should only get power at the plug when the headlights are switched on. Have you checked all of the fuses? If the illumination fuse blows then the licence plate lamps and night-time tail lights won't illuminate, so that's a quick way to tell. Other than that I'd look over the stereo harness and make sure that everything is where it's supposed to be.

I've posted most of my pictures as images after placing them on photobucket and doing direct link using the image button (mountain in square).

What year car? motor size? auto or manual?

What else fried was it all tracked down and source of issue corrected?

Junkyard or members here scrapping cars could be source for new wire harness and then replace accordingly as long as you know extend of damage.
