93 Corolla Exhaust

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

My son has a 93 Corolla, 1.6L, 5 speed, 2 door, all stock.

It appears to have an exhaust leak from the joint between the catalytic converter to the muffler. I can't tell if the joint is bolted. The "bolts" don't have much of a head on them.

Should I be able to separate the joint and put in a new gasket? How? I don't have a torch. I'm thinking of unbolting the whole thing from converter inlet back to work on it, but the converter inlet joint bolts are very rusted.

If I remember correctly, there are bolts that go through the midpipe flange and into nuts welded onto the muffler flange. I ground off the heads of the bolts with a dremel, removed the muffler, and drilled a slightly larger diameter hole through the nuts. I then reassembled with stainless nuts, bolts, and washers from the hardware store.
