USA Temp sensor and fan not working after engine swap

so i bought a donor 94 prizm to swap out the engine in mine. i finnally finished not one problem except my tempeture guage will not rise at all. i left the parts on the engine that i swapped that temp guage worked on the drive from pa to maryland. but since i had two of everything i changed the themostat the sensor on the themostat and the coolant inlet in to the block. still it will not read or turn on the fan. all the fuses are fine. i unplugged the senor on the themostat housing while running and the fan kicked on. any ideas how to get the temp guage working and the fan to come on automaticly and not by unhooking the sensor? please help

I think you have the sensors swapped. The one in the thermostat should be an on/off style. below 199 deg. it is continuous. Above it is not.

I'm sure there is a second sensor for the gauge, but I cant find it anywhere in my book.

Nah they are where they belong one is bigger than the other they won't go anywhere else; also the wires won't reach any further to interchange. I'm hoping I forgot a ground or something simple. It gets hot fast I drained it out and put in antifreeze all the way because someone said it could be an air pocket that didn't wOrk either.

update!!!!!
fixed the temp sensor prob. on the water pump there is a sensor, mine broke in half no parts stores had an idea of what i was talking about or showed them. appearently there are two temp sensors on on the themostat that turns on the fan and the one one the water pump to read the guage. they said i needed a new water pump, so i went to crazy rays and pulled two off junkers it worked fine. but i did break one off be carefull if you do break it you will need a new water pump!

but i still have a engine light hopefully ill figure that out next week i still have to put everything back on it and clean her up.

Can you tell me please where can i find that sensor that sends data to the water gauge with some pictures, or something? My water temp gauge is stuck at a certain position for some days, without any repairs at the car, and i want to find out if that sensor is grounded, check the connections...or if you know what to check, please tell me

The water pump with the elbow connected to it. The sensor is the grey plastic tube on the elbow, right next to the black rubber hose.

You might want to take a look at this thread:
DIY Timing belt and water pump replacement Corolla 93-97
to have some context regarding where stuff is located.

The gauge normally drops all the way down as soon as you turn off the ignition. If it does not, then there is probably a mechanical problem with the gauge. Like it got stuck for some reason.
