Any ignition gurus? (VAST/EDIS/stock/Megasquirt cagematch)
Getting the Megasquirt running on the stock engine is in progress down at Forged Performance. The question came up--what happens when the stock ECU is no longer driving the coil? Is that what it relies on for timing data, hence: ability to shift?
The line of thinking we're pursuing is that with the crank position sensor on the F block still talking to the stock ECU, and the EDIS pickup talking to Megasquirt, we ought to be able to throw a resistor into the coil output from the stock ECU that would simulate the voltage drop from a correctly operating coil/dizzy and not just leave them hooked up to nothing, arcing into everything.
But what's the stock ECU really use for timing? Coil feedback? CPS? How / when / etc does it send signals to the transmission solenoids?
