What Motor Do I have?

I need to find a timing belt kit for my sisters 96 automatic Corolla and I'm not sure which motor it has. I've heard their should be a sticker on the front and I've seen them on other Corollas. This one doesn't have one. Is their anything I can look for on the motor that will give it away. If no one can help I'm going to call the dealer with the VIN tomorrow and see if they can help me.

Thanks in advance.

TMB,

Here's a thread that should help. There is a stamped number on the front of the engine that would provide the info and I've read here, 3 speed automatic = 1.6L and 4 speed automatic = 1.8L?

thread

hood, block, or door jam

3 places say it: On the sticker on the hood, which I think you say is already gone

Stampled onto the engine block, which isn't too hard to find.

Or on the sticker in the drivers door jam, but I don't remember how you tell from the door jam sticker. ae86 is one engine and other is something else...

Take a look at your distributor metal housing, there might be a sticker on there.
If you see the number 4 anywhere on there, it is a 1.6.
If you see a #7, you have a 1.8

The best way to check which engine you have is to look at the engine code that's etched into the block. It's located to the right of the exhaust manifold and is stamped vertically.

Here's some photos of it's location:

As you can see, mine says 5A as it has a 5A-FE engine. It will says 4A for the 4A-FE or 7A for the 7A-FE. You will have to get down low to see the numbers on the block and may have to give it a bit of a wipe to get rid of any dirt etc, but this is the most reliable way of checking which engine your car has.
