The Mysterious Crush Panel

well, i searched for it, and even though i found a lot of other interesting threads to read, none of them helped me with my problem.

how do i get that stupid black piece off? the factory manual calls it a crush panel, but neither it nor the haynes manual describe how to remove it. heck, the haynes manual doesn't say ANYTHING about the back doors.

anyway, at the top of this thing are four holes spaced evenly apart that give access to four clips that i would assume you push in with a thin screwdriver, but i've tried this to no avail. any suggestions?

Never seen that before. Must be unique to the US market. My Corolla certainly doesn't have anything like that. Best of luck getting if off. Someone is bound to know how.

Mine (97) has that thing, but I don't remember exactly how I got it off. I think three clips came off fairly easy and the fourth one was a bitch.

Got a junkyard nearby where you can go to figure it out?

Only the 1997 Corolla came with those panels, as the door panels are different than 93-96.

lol, i tried that already. i'll push on them with a screwdriver, and they'll make a noise like they're out of the way. but when i go to pull up on it, it doesn't go anywhere.

well, i'd prefer to keep them in one piece. hopefully i'll find one in a salvage yard to pull apart. been meaning to go for quite awhile.
