Canada 7A-FE Tuning or drop in 4A-GE Blacktop

Following up with my previous thread [Low Mileage Blow Out]; I am considering possibly repairing and tuning my 7afe 1997 Corolla DX. Though, I wouldn't mind swapping this old motor with a 4age 20valve Blacktop or Silvertop engine though I want to keep the transmission automatic.

Also, does anyone know if the 7afe 1.8L engine is N/A or will it take a turbo? and would this engine be able to be fitted with a racing chip?

Best bet is to get the 20V swap. Blacktop if you want to stay naturally aspirated. Silvertop if you plan on doing any kind of forced induction in the future. The engines need the short gearing only a manual transmission can provide to optimize acceleration or else you'll negate any gains you had with the engine swap in the first place.

Thank you. I agree with the swap, also a gain in hrosepower just from the engine swap alone. The only issue is I will have to learn how to drive manual lol. Thanks again, somebody has a complete step by step thread on the Blacktop swap into a 93 corolla AE102 same generation and chassis as mine so should fit with no mods. just gotta find the right installation price and learn how to drive manual, so embarrasing lol
