R134a refrigerant suggestion?

About to overhaul the system in our 96 DX 1.8L and looking for suggestions for R134a to put in. I'll be pulling a vacuum and doing a complete recharge with a manifold gauge set, and starting with a completely empty system.

I know if I go to AutoZone or whatever, they'll always recommend the high priced junk with all kinds of "stop leak" additives or stuff that supposedly improves cooling performance, which IMHO sounds like a load of crap. Can anyone recommend a particular brand of R134a, or maybe just buy whatever is cheapest at the auto parts store?

straight 134A is what you want. You can add dye oil, you know what kind of compressor oil to add.

If you run a blend of R152a in the system you can boost effeiency a little, that's all those '20% cooler' ones are. downside is, 152 is flammable! However when blended with 134a the danger is pretty low and the benefits are worth it...problem is blending them yourself, blah how? Too complicated unless your system takes multiple lbs and you can recharge with different cans, but I think your system is like 1-1.5lbs so nah, don't bother. If it was a van with rear air that takes 4lbs, sure do 3 134 and 1 152.

System takes about 2 12 oz. cans or a tad more.

But no, anything other than R134a voids warranty on all parts. So none of that for me.
