noise when i turn my steering

hey guys ive been hearing this noise when i turn my steering, and this time its not the old squeaking sound cos of belt
it sounds kind of dry or its rubbing against something
what could possibly be wrong with it?

It could be the clockspring (wiring for the horn and airbag) is dry and rubbing. Some say that a bit of talcum powder can help it. It can also be caused by the boot that the steering shaft runs through the firewall.

OP if it's the steering shaft rubbing then a bit of multipurpose grease might do the trick. You'll probably have to move the steering wheel back and forth (or have someone else do it) while you try to listen under the dash and steering column area to try to pinpoint the source of the noise.

before you go spreading talcum poweder around, I would pinpoint the noise. It may even be in the rack and pinion, steering shaft, or linkage somewhere.
