I'd like to double check that there is nothing holding the rotors on besides the caliper mounting bracket. I removed the bracket and cannot get the rotors off. I did a search on this site and found that you can use a couple of screws in the screw holes on the rotor to get it off. It mentioned the screw size, but I'd like to verify that it's correct. Anyone know the size offhand?
same size thread as the spare tire hold down in the trunk, use it to match to the correct bolts. thread two bolts into the rotor, tighten them with a ratchet. if you tighten them in and nothing happens, smack the rotor hat with a hammer and it should pop up and come off. more hitting may be needed.
be sure to clean the hub to BARE SHINY METAL so the new rotor sits flush on it.
Nothing holding onto the calipers bro, they must have been on there a while...once you remove the caliper and the caliper bracket...it just a rotor. A little surface rust is holding it on maybe. Hit it with a hammer.
Yep. If you're replacing it, just get a heavy hammer and whack it. If you're keeping it, hit the middle and bang the rust loose. It'll come off, it's just stuck.
You can watch my youtube video where I do my M3's rear brakes. Part II shows where I tug on it and it doesn't come off either. After whacking the shiznit out of it, it finally came off. Make sure you put some anti-seize on it after taking it off to prevent this in the future.
Thank you all for the advice on removing the rotor. When I was trying to loosen the caliper mounting bracket bolts to get the rotor off, I got a little overzealous and broke one of the rusty bolts. I am planning on going to a dealer tomorrow to try to get a new one. Napa was no luck, and a lot of Googling hasn't turned up anything on the bracket bolts. Anyone had luck at the dealer for these bolts?
Oops! You need some PB Blaster man. You should be putting that on everything before you take it off on such old cars. If you can't get one at the dealer, find out the size and grade and you can order one from Fastenal. My girlfriends Jeep Grand Cherokee had a Caliper bolt fall off. It's a 2001 and they don't carry it anywhere. Ordered one from Fastenal and got it within a few days. Cost $10 though...they charged like $7 to ship!

The dealer should stock that bolt, it's used on SOO many different Toyota's and not just for caliper brackets. Well..my local dealer would have it stocked. Your dealer might be a little smaller.
Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to say thanks again, especially to bitter for the tip about the spare tire hold down. I just used that to pop the rotor off. Worked like a charm. As for those bolts, I spent 20 minutes at the Toyota parts counter while the guy tried to figure out the part number for them. The diagrams are really vague. We finally decided that it was part #47710A on the diagram. Of course they had none in stock to compare to the old one, so he called a dealer further away since they had 20 in stock so they could try to compare over the phone. According to the other dealer's decription, it looks like it's the right one. So they're ordering them and I'll have them Tuesday.
