USA Charcoal Canister? Rough Idle. Vacuum?

Hey folks, i just recently bought a 94 geo prizm from my pal for $1000.00. It has 57,000 miles on it. It's in great shape. Minor front end wreck that i fixed, ima body man. The car sat up for 6 years tho. Having a few minor problems.

This is my biggest problem. My friend put a fuel tank in it from a junk yard and patched a hole in it. I fueled it up, drove it around, it started leaking. Lots of pressure releasing when loosening the fuel cap. I bought a new fuel tank and fuel pump. installed and drove, fuel squirting from one of the rubber lines connecting to the steel fuel lines. The lines you can get to underneath the car. Charcoal canister i presume?

Has a rough idle. Once you get going, hit the gas, and cruise, it runs like butter. wants to die at idle. Took off the air cleaner to inspect the the intake butterfly. Looks like a idle intake hole located right before the butterfly on the lower portion of the tube. cuts on when a/c compressor kicks in then off when a/c shuts off. It is pulling a little bit of vacuum at all times, but seems to stop idling up with a/c once engine is warmed up. Rev the engine way up for a few seconds it seems to work for a second then back to how it is. Vacuum leak? Linked to charcoal canister possibly being stopped up.

Trying to get this car goin, riding my motorcycle for the past 2 years kinda sucks. ready to have my four wheels goin. any help greatly appreciated

Well I might suggest cleaning your Idle Air Control valve.

Buy some injector cleaning fluid and put higher octane fuel.

And yes, the hose connecting on your fuel tank is the Evaporative Emission Control Canister. Check for vacuum leaks ON the charcoal canister and on the fuel tank breather.

You might want to change the spark plugs and the PCV valve.

Have you fixed the pressure build up? Most likely a charcoal canister problem. Be careful not to bust another fuel tank. The pressure can easily bust a tank. I know from experience
