DIY: Adding in cruise control to my 96

Hey

So i finally have started to tackle this thing.

I've got the black box installed under the hood.

Now i'm trying to investigate how and where the pedal attachment and the CC computer is located located and installed.

This is what my current gas pedal assembly looks like. Upon doing this picture it provide much more light. So i was able to see that black patch shown in dim red (for some reason) is where the cable is going to come thru from the black box under the hood. This is a picture of it off the car the parts came off just showing the other side of the red arrow.

And it should attach to this.

And than i have the box and the cable to the gas pedal complete.

Now here where the complicated part comes. (i think)

This is the black box again off the car the parts came off.

The wire that goes (the dotted cable) what looks to be into the fender i'm guess that goes to the CC computer. Access behind the fire wall in that location is tough. I've took out the glove box and you just hit duck work. Has any one had any experience working in this area.??

And than mounting the CC computer i'm guess in this area somewhere in this area i'm guessing.

Oh does anyone no what that green connector is for? Seems to just be sitting there.

Oh does anyone no what that green connector is for? Seems to just be sitting there.

And than after i get the wiring from the black box in the CC computer located. I've gotta mount the switch (which i have) but i've never takin the steering wheel apart. Which i will probably find on here when i've got more time to search.

Anyways, i'm posting this both a guide and to get help. So if you have any inputs please share.

Well, it's nice to see someone tackle this project. I'm not sure what you might run into as far as the electrical part of it goes.

Now, I can tell you that the CC computer mounts right there behind the cubby hole that you removed. You see those two goldish brackets that is behind the cubby hole. They run up in sort of a V- shape, one on each side? The CC brains mounts kind of **** eyed between those two brackets. It has a tab on the right side and a bolt on the left side. To remove it you would have to remove the lower dash. If you didn't get it from that parts car, you will need it. And it's very likely that the green connector you asked about is the plug that plugs into the CC computer. Hope that helps

Hey bro, any more luck installing my old CC? You will need to remove all of the lower dash pieces for sure. The CC computer location should be more obvious then. The pedal and black box are very easy, simply bolt on. I couldn't get all of the wiring out because it connected to everything lol. You have a wiring diagram manual? You'll need it! Good luck.

Update:

So i've got the actuator, the cable and the pedal attachment all installed. Sucked cause the whole of the cable was not imprinted so i had to measure it all out. But i got it to work.

So now i'm going to tackle the switch tomorrow.

And than the wiring fun begins(i'm guessing this will be the worst part) but i figure i can just drill my own whole to bring the wires through if i can't get it thru the default routing.

And no i don't have a wiring diagram i have the toyota car book. Haven't done much digging but on a brief check i didn't see anything.

If any one has some helpfull hints that would be great. Pictures are the best. I could really use a picture of the computer mounted. I will take off the bottom panel to take a pretty look after i get the switch in. But i've took a good look at those "V" rails and i haven't noticed it yet. But i'm sure i will.

Update:

So i got the switch installed. I did that by removing the two sqaure covers on the sides of the steering wheel and removing two hex on the left and one of the right and the air bag fell out.

Once i got the switch screwed in i ran into my next problem

The connector that i have is on the top that only has two prongs for the two connectors on my stock white thing when the connector from the switch has got six of them

Looking like i'm going to need the black round thing with the six prongs. This is the next part i'm trying to find. And who knows how that attached to the steering wheel i'm hoping that'll be my last piece. Along with the wiring from the actuator to where ever that connects not quite sure yet.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

yeah I've obviously got the part as well. It simply has 4 screws holding it on, but you need to remove the steering wheel, which requires a steering wheel puller kit/tool from your local store.

Ya i'm working on getting of those now. I was trying to convince this guy who's got a camry with the engine and it's just collecting dust to sell it to me for 10 bucks but he wanted 75 for it. Which i'm not prepared to pay for the camry one for my corolla. i just figured a 10 buck gamble and it looks EXactly the same why not.

So now i'm either going to get it off chris or i'm going to try my local scrap yard. I'm still looking for a parts car though so that may happen as well.

yeah Mine is $30 lol (gotta ship to Canada though) so I highly recommend finding a Corolla with CC there, cause that will help you wire yours in.

lookup the part numbers and check interchange. A dealer can do it or there is a website.
