Hood latch adjustment?

Anybody know how this is supposed to work? Long story short, I have to half-sit on my hood to get it to latch now. The Chilton manual doesn't go into it and I'd just as soon not go loosening all those untouched 15-year-old bolts without a more precise idea of what the hell I'm doing.

On my 95 dx there are rubber stoppers that screw up and down to adjust how much the hood will pop up and down (located on the left and right side in front of the radiator). If these got moved too high up, it may be holding the hood up too high. Might be a quick thing to check

I don't think that the hood latch has any adjustment in the screws (I just removed mine). But yeah, check the hood bump stops.

Only adjust the rubber pads enough for the hood to latch properly. If they are too loose, it is possible for the hood to rattle.

The latch has been torqued a little too far down between the deer incident and a small accident to catch the loop properly now. I may just have to suck it up and start trying (carefully) to twist/bend up the crossmember that the latch bolts onto. The bump stops are down all the way, making the hood line below the actual fender line, but it still requires that extra force to get closed. I'll post back with what I figure out.

While toyota's assembly at the factory is good enough that they dont have to put adjustment holes, you may have to. Its not a sin to oval the holes to get your hood to latch correctly especially since the car has been damaged.

Yeah, if you've gotten into an accident, then you should drill some new holes.
