That's not a bad idea at all...especially for those of us who have long since warped the stock cardboard under-carpet liner. The dimensions actually look pretty close from just eyeballing it...
Not sure if that particular one would fit, but Toyota made one exactly like that as an optional extra for the JDM 7th Gen models. The only hard part is finding one

9th Gen's Trunk goes deeper in and is wider than the 7th Gen's. I tried my 9th Gen's carpet in the '97 and it fits, but it's folded up on the sides. I'll take a pic tomorrow when it's light out so you can see exactly how it would fit.

Here's a pic of the OEM one from the JDM sales brochure. Kind of hard to see since the pic is so small (and it's colour coded to match the trunk carpet) but you get the idea:

It's not quite as ill-fitting as I remember, but this should give you a general idea of how it would fit.
kinda hard to tell in the last two pics, but the sides of the carpeting are propped up against the side of the car. (I used both the carpeting and the lining under the carpet from my '07 to show the fit)
That's nice! I should steal my Aunt's! LOL. Anyway I had one made for a measley $10. I will post pics. It's made of cheaper rubber but it's good enough. The cuts suck though.
Just a thought-
Your best bet would be to trace the outline of the trunk somehow, and cut that outline onto a sheet of plywood. You'd have to cut that plywood in half to fit it in the trunk, I'd expect, but you'd at least have SOMETHING that's not bowed in and "ghetto" looking, like the stock piece that is in there.
And does anyone here know how to build the wooden board that's under the mat?
That is very easy. Take out the carpet and trace it onto the wood, then cut it out with a jib saw. I personally cut the sides off so that they acted like doors that opened up to reveal jack and storage. I stapled the carpet down to the boards to hold it all together. It is easy to remove in and out, just fold up the sides and lift it out.
I put one from an 89 Camry into my Corolla, and it fit very well, the two flaps on the left and right sides, closest to the end of the car were a little longer then the Corollas, you could trim it, or just push it up which is what I did. I'm sure it would be easy to find at a salvage yard.
