1994 corolla t-belt....

I picked up a 94 rolla with 213k on it a couple months ago. tuned up, changed the oil. clutch recently replaced also. im not sure if this car has ever had the timing belt changed. the last owner i knew, and she wasnt great at maintenance, when i bought it I had to put 2 qts of oil in it to bring it up on the stick... my friend has put 3000 miles on it, with the ac running constantly, and the oil still looks nearly new on the stick. it doesnt miss but the engine or muffler is kinda loud. runs well, zippy. so im hoping the engine is going to last a few years.

It is a 1.6, not sure which motor is in it, so im not sure if the timing belt breaking will screw up the engine (no worry in my camry) This is my main concern!..... it is a 5 speed, base model. Advice is appreciated......

The 1.6L 4A-FE is a non-interference engine, so if the timing belt snaps it won't cause any engine damage. The engine number is stamped vertically into the block, to the right of the exhaust manifold. Since you're not sure if the belt has ever been changed, I'd definitely replace it, along with the tensioner and water pump. There's a great write-up about the process here: DIY Timing belt and water pump replacement Corolla 93-97

The engine wont be damaged if it breaks, but you will be stranded/need a tow.

When a timming belt is done at a dealership I think they are supposed to mark it with a sticker on the timming belt case. Might be worth a look.

Yeah both my belts stickers are on my valve cap, but because I painted it I moved them down to the side, near the manifolds.
