the problem i'm having is when i apply the brake petal, the brake lights do not work on the rear drivers side only (the passenger rear works as it should)
i have replaced all the lights in the assembly. the lights on the drivers rear light up when i turn on the headlight switch. the turn signal light works when i use the turn signal, but the brake light does not light up on that side
perhaps the wiring for the one side is damaged, inspect closely. It runs behind the carpet in the trunk, so undo that. The wires for both sides come together right there behind the carpet, so there is a very small length of wire to check for breaks.

I had that exact same problem a few years ago. It turned out to be the socket that holds the light bulb. I got the replacement part from my local auto part store, slapped that sucker on.....problem free now.
do you have a part number and know what auto part store it was, so i can go right in there and buy the exact part?
there are several lights back there, not sure exactly what this socket looks like, all i see is a wiring harness and several bulbs, lol

Damn, I can't remember the part number, but they should have the sockets on display. You can just look for the one you need, which is what I did. Takes a while, but you'll find it. I looked at the ones that were similar looking, looked behind the packaging to see if it were compatable. I bought it at Pep Boys. The light bulb was 1157, which has a dual filament. The socket is the thing that holds the light bulb. Hope that helps.

Oh! Also, my socket was a bit burnt....that was the cause of my problem. Don't know why or how it happened though. So before you start cutting wires and all that, make sure you go step by step. Check out the wires for a break like gold94corolla said.

From the picture, it looks like your scokets are fine. Mine was burnt (charred in other words) in the middle of the socket. Where the light bulb makes contact.
I don't know man, don't know what else to tell you . You might just have to reaplace that whole section of wires .
actually that was a picture i found online, just to get a visual and to help others with a similar problem
i sent a PM to gold94corolla because he offered to sell me a piece of the wiring harness (the piece i need)
just waiting for him to get back to me

FWIW, I had the same problem, and my sockets had simply melted, allowing the contacts to sink back into the plastic a little, just enough to lose contact. no burnt contacts, had to look close to see the problem. The ones I found at the junkyard were melted, too, so had to buy new ones.
