My front brake backing plate fell off due to rust

Hi, a large piece from one of my front brake backing plate rusted away and fell off. Is-it OK to continue driving without it?

I figure it does not do much maybe other than shielding from splash or rain. Even with an intact backing plate, most of the brake disk is exposed anyway. The backing plate is not even a full circle, but rather 2/3 of a circle

Nah, don't worry about it. Just there to keep the brake dust from building up on the suspension and shield things from heat, not really needed so much, some cars never have them.
