There aren't really any performance parts for these cars. You seeing one for $1200 is one more than I've seen. You also aren't going to gain much power by changing cams anyway if your car has no other mods. The 7AFE is a nice platform for mods compared to the 4AFE due to the internals being a little more durable, and it goes really nicely with a turbocharger or a 20 Valve head, but you're looking at an investment of probably over $1500 in parts no matter how you do it (turbo job, head swap, or engine swap).

If you want just a little more pep tune it up, put a K&N drop-in air filter in it (or you can fabricate your own CAI with intercooler pipe), and see if you can't get a decent quality header and muffler on. That's about it really without doing extreme work on the car.

yea ive already got a 4-2-1 header and a highflow cat for deeper sound custom cold air intake with a bypass filter valve so i dont hydro lock it by runnin it thru a puddle lol and port and polished the throttle body. i just thot maybe if i could find a cheap cam to throw in for a lil bit more horse i could tune it then. maybe piggyback the ecu if i can find one. or sell it and buy a v8 haha

Yeah, there are really not any cheap cams as anything out there is going to be custom made. The 4AGE cams are not interchangeable either as they are driven individually, whereas the 4/7AFE are driven off a single sprocket so that would require a head swap. And for all that time money and effort you might as well spend a little more and get a 20 valve head. I think someone here has done that but I am not totally sure. Turbo manifolds for the 4AFE are out there for around $160 on ebay but I am not sure as to their quality or interchangeability, and 4AGE manifolds are NOT interchangeable.

ask the right people get the right answer. webcams.com can grind your cams for what you want. but it wont be good unless u boost. you can do a good build and get good power out of the 7a - if you had the 4a you can use the crank-rods-and forged pistons, 7a you can use the 4age pistons but need to call a shop in the land down under for rods. arp can be used and the valves but will need to be machine.

Theres a reason for few parts- Its just NOT MADE for "modding."

As noted if you really want HP swap in a 'top engine.

It's too bad because the 4AFE looks to have a fair bit of untapped potential.
