p0302 why?!?!?

I have a 97 1.6 corolla. For some reason I keep losing my number 2 spark plug. I replace it and it runs great again. I hear the fuel injector clicking, and the car runs great when first turned on. But now im about three weeks into this spark plug and I threw a code again. It runs great when cold but after a good warm up it started to misfire again. Its not a constant misfire either. And it gets allot worse just I put my AC on. (Im guessing from the extra loadon the engine) and tips or comments would be appreciated!!!! Thanks!

Does trading the plug with one from another cylinder make the misfire follow the suspect plug? What does the suspect plug look like? How old are the wires? Have you checked the injector's coil resistance on that cylinder?

If you go digging around you will find that distributors on these cars give a bit of trouble.

You also didnt indicate if you have changed the wires and cap/rotor at all.

Normal maintenance can clear up a LOT of problems!

thank you for your responses! i have only changed the plugs, i will do cap rotor and wires because i havent done this yet. the suspect plug looks leanish meaning a lil white. i havent switched plugs around because eveytime i get this code i just replace the plug but i think after three plugs i need to find the problem. i was gonna switch some spark plug wires around but yea i couldnt haha i am going to read out the injector and wire when i get home.

and the motor was a junkyard donor btw. it really runs great after changing the plug. im just afraid i might be losing a headgasket as this car has killed two motors already by the previous owner. and when i recieved it it had the 302 code stored before i swapped in another motor. i should have done a full tune up right off the bat but i wanted to make sure this motor worked first.

Your description is not typical of a head gasket problem.

OK so I ohm'd out the fuel injector 14.5, the wire was 11 ohm on #2 and 7 ohm on the others. Im going to try new wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter this weekend. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
