Windshield wiper motor repair

Well not really. Like the sticker says on many TV's and other electronics- "No user servicable parts inside"

My motor was having problems finding rest position. Sometimes in intermittent mode the wipers would cycle 6-7 times before parking in the middle of the windshield. SO I thought I'll just take it apart and do a switch adjustment like I did on many older cars. Nope. Its not that easy.

Good news is that when I put it all back together and reinstalled, the motor cycled properly. Lets see how long that lasts.

I thought I would post to save others a waste of time.

On some cars its the ground that causes the windshield wipers to land in the middle.

Maybe it was your motor though

Had a similar problem couple of years ago except that my wipers would not start when put on intermittent or first speed. Only the second speed started them. Inside the motor assembly, behind the large gear is a couple of contacts that slide along metal paths. My problem appeared to be the grease for the gear. Over time it has contaminated the paths/contacts and hardened so there was poor contact.
Trouble is getting to those contacts as that part of the assembly is held together with a one-way lock-washer that goes over a stud. I had to drill that stud and outer cover and then used a normal bolt and nut to put it back together after cleaning the contacts/paths. Worked fine ever since.

On my motor the large gear was held in with a circlip. Hmm maybe I should have gone just a little further. Testing the last few days it has still worked perfectly.
