O/T MC question

Good evening all,

As for my Prizm, I've just been putting miles on and haven't done anything to it lately. Oil change this coming weekend. Shifting into 5th still has a very slight grind which I find unsettling, don't know if it is an indication of "synchro" issue or what?? If I let the engine idle down and shift slow, it does better, 1-4 no problems.

The real reason I am posting is I pulled the MC, and pedal from my parts Prizm and am hoping to intall it in my sons 52' styleline. I understand this MC to use a proportioning valve on the firewall. Does that mean both lines will receive the same pressure if installed w/o the proportiong valve? The old Chevy has drum brakes all around and was designed with a single pool MC that provides equal pressure to all wheel cylinders. The front tires get larger wheel cylinders to provide additional braking. Any help is appreciated.

any help

Good evening all,

I'm still playing with the idea of adding the MC and booster to an old Chevy. It appears the MC includes a larger reservoir for the disk brakes which would be expected and typically more pressure is applied from the MC to the disk brakes.

Per Haynes,

"The hydraulic system consists of two separate circuits. The master cylinder has separate reservoirs for the two circuits, and, in the event of a leak or failure in one hydraulic circuit, the other circuit will remain operative. A dual proportioning vavle on the firewall provides the brake balance between the front and rear brakes."

Based on the description of the dual proportioning valve, I question how the pressure in the two MC circuits compare. Any help is appreciated.

I guess I could always add an adjustable proportioning valve between the MC and brakes if needed.

Any comments welcome.

Chris

PS - I pulled the booster and MC two or three weeks back. Do I need to plug lines and keep filled with fluid to protect seals etc. or is placing in a plastic bag for cleanliness good enough. Could easily be six months before I get to messing with this if it makes sense.
