95 Three speed shift points.

Hi all, I just installed a donor three speed transmision into my corolla. My questions is, how do I adjust the point at which the tranny shifts gears.

Currently, my shift speeds are 40/73. 1st to second at abuot 40 mph, second to third at about 73,mph.

My son has the same engine and tranny in his 94 Prizm. )1.6 engine with a three speed tranny.
His shift speed are, 1st to second at about 27, second to third at about 47..

How do I adjust the speed at which the tranny shifts?
Thanks in advance for you asistance.

That can't be good for fuel economy, those poor little screaming hamsters on the treadmill...

Have you tried adjusting the tension on the throttle cable? With the car off and the pedal non-depressed, you should have about the deflection of, say, your alternator belt--assuming that's properly adjusted too--when you poke the cable. If not, it's a couple 8mm (from memory) nuts that are fairly easy to back off or tighten in tandem

Fixed it. Turns out the shift cable was pulled out about a half an inch at the transmission during install. We reseated the cable and now it shifts properly.

Proper points should be 45 and 72, at which point the rev limiter kicks in (note you can only attain these by manually going from 1st to 2nd to Drive, because the transmission tends to shift a few mph short of this).
