Metal piece found on top of a spark plug

Changed my spark plugs today and found a piece of metal on top of the spark plug, and went into the plug wire. When I replaced it I took it out because it was very strange to have it in there. The car misfire like crazy. Running very rough. I decided to put it back in on top of the spark plug and it runs so smooth???? It was about a inch and half in length. It's very odd It's a 1996 corrola it looks like it does not belong there. There is wood chips on the inside of the meal piece. I just bought the car changed the plugs and this seems to make the car extremly happy

Perhaps the plug wire was damaged so that the connector somehow failed to reach all the way down to the plug and the metal piece was put there as an extension. Or maybe the plug wires are from some other car. Try a known good and proper plug wire and see if it will still misfire.

You pulled the connector off the plug wire that should snap onto the plug and be inside the boot crimped to the plug wire. You need a new set of plug wires.
