Correct procedure to getting TDC?
Hi,
I have a 96 corolla 1.6L and I tried to replace the timing belt. I marked the positions of the gear and crank while the belt was still on, however when i released the the tensioner, the gear slipped and rotated out of the position. There was some slack on the timing belt, so that leads me to believe the belt had slipped one or two teeth. I'm confused as to how to set it back to TDC. Is this the correct procedure? Will this work?
1. Rotate the top gear until the markings with the letter K is on top.
2. Place a pencil in cyclinder # 1, manually crank the pulley until the pencil is at it's highest point
Thanks
