Need a Opinion on Spark Plugs

hey ppl, got a 94 corolla base model. just hit 195k on it and i was wondering what kind of plugs shold i get?? I work at a parts store and see it calls for platinum plugs and what if i were to put iridium plugs or doble platinum plugs in my corolla..... Do you think it would cause a problem??? My boss got me thinking bout it might be too hot a plug and melt the piston but i dont know. any suggestions???

For spark plugs, use only NGK and Denso on Toyotas. (Forget Bosch, Champions, etc.) Platinum plugs will do fine but there's nothing wrong with using iridium or double platinum plugs. You'll get longer service life with those. As long as the heat range of those plugs are the same as OE, you should not be any problem.

i stick with the original copper BK5R5EYA NGK plugs like the owners manual calls for

in the aircooled VW world i learned that switching to platinum and what not caused major problems for our air-cooled engines so i have always stuck with the OE recommended type like in this case copper.

too "hot" a plug happens by using the wrong heat range. In NGK land the lower the number the hotter the plug. Motorcycles typically use an "8" while cars seem to be happy using "5" plugs. Construction of the plug has NOTHING to do with "melting."

The previous advice on brands was exact. Make sure all the gaps are the same before installation. Sometimes the electrodes get damaged and could cause a problem.
