Its been a fun ride....time to retire the old girl
Well i suppose most of the old guys that would remember me aren't around anymore, but if you are... I bid farewell, Finally after 10 years and 245,000km's of ownership its time to put the old girl to rest. The main reason is rust, but mechanically she needs more attention then i can provide or makes financial sense to accomodate...
Anyways if anyone in the toronto area is after bits and pieces Ive got some part out stuff to get rid of and also have alot of engine and related driveline parts, you can find that thread here:
Sad news. Rust is like cancer, you can delay it for some time, but eventually the end comes. I am terrified myself of the day when my Rolla will have to make the last ride.
Just remember all the *good* times
I found a 06 impreza wagon 2.5i to replace it, wanted a subie forever so i finally broke down and got one!
The rust really is like cancer a few weeks ago it was raining really hard coming home from work my sub was cutting in and out being a PITA, i get home open the trunk put my hand down on the carpet and its wet im like WTF?!?!? i then see the carpet is wet by the wheel well, so i pull the carpet back and i see the swollen up spot i just touch it and it crumbles to a golf ball size hole. then i remember a small pencil size hole on the front side of the wheel well. so i remove the side bolster on the rear seat. the fiberglass patch is laying on the floor and there is another golf ball size hole.....
That was pretty much the moot point for me, because no matter how much i do mechanically its just to little to late for the body. I ended up re-patching the holes with fiberglass thats when i conceeded defeat.

Yeah bro, I hear you. Same thing in my case.... the body was rusting apart no matter what... bolts were frozen or just broken. When the motor died, that was the end. Good luck!
I got rid of mine a couple weeks ago (traded it to a family member)... already miss it. Easy to work on, great economy, ton of character. I really like the power of my truck, and really needed a bigger, more comfortable vehicle due to my height, but it just doesn't have the personality and spirit of that Toyota.
Sucks you had to get rid of her. Just remember the good ol'times :-).
Im also thinking of getting rid of my AE101 :-/. Ive had some mechanical problems here & there. Already replaced the engine ones. Now Im having some steering issues. Been thinking of getting a Tacoma, always wanted one for the longest time.
