Unknown noise on Prizm
My wifes car is a 1997 Prizm LSI, with 1.8L motor, and 4 speed auto trans. It has 122k miles. We bought it almost a year ago, from the original owner, and it appears to have been very well taken care of. For approximately the last month and a half or so, it has been making a noise from the front end which I cannot figure out. It does sound somewhat like a rattling, but it is very inconsistent. It doesnt really sound like metal on metal rattling. Sometimes you do hear it going over bumps, sometimes you dont. But you dont necessarily have to be driving to hear it, although that is mostly when I do hear it. I dont hear it at idle. What are some things to check for? I wish I could describe the sound a little better, but Im not sure how else to explain it. We have owned a few Prizms/Corollas before this one. They have all been this generation, with either a 1.6 or a 1.8, so I am fairly familiar with these cars, but this one I cant figure out.
