'93 Prizm Rear Speaker Replacement

My wife drives a 1993 Geo Prizm, and it's time to replace the rear speakers. I don't want to pay a tech $50 to $100 to do this, since I've heard it isn't that hard to do. But I can't figure out how to get to the speakers without damaging things along the way. I've searched the web, and through this forum, but nobody seems to be able to provide enough accurate details. Has anyone ever done this? What steps do I need to take? Are there any pictures or videos of the process? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know about the Prizm, maybe it's different than the Corolla, but I remember changing the speakers was a pretty easy job. I really can't imagine that it's something you can't just figure out as you go.

It's been several years, but IIRC, I opened the trunk and disconnected the wires. Then crawled in the back seat and removed the center brake light, then pried up on the front of the hardboard cover to expose the speakers. A screwdriver to remove them and then reverse the process to install the new ones. Finally reconnect the wires. Done.

Good luck.

I think the side bolsters of the seat had to come off also (1 bolt under back seat each side) so the panel would slide out without damaging stuff. Order your stuff from crutchfield and will come with step by step printouts and you can call if you need more help. The center brake light....you need to push in that small center circle then remove the whole pin so you can get the cover of it off.
