Have you ever had a problem with the starter?

Hello buddies!

I am a little bit curious. I just got a problem with the starter and I already got it fixed. I was told that this is kind of a "known issue" on Toyota´s but before I say any word I want to hear you all first!

IIRC, according to Identifix, the 94-96 Corolla has a higher failure rate on the starting and charging systems.

Denso starters are some of the most reliable starters in the world.

However, after approximately 100k miles (and tens of thousands of starts), the copper contacts in the solenoid get worn down and need to be replaced. You can buy a replacement contact kit for under $20 to refurbish the starter to virtually brand new.

Started having problems with the starter clicking but not fully engaging. I bought a new set of contacts but when i went to refurbish the starter all I did was clean and put the contacts back in. Works fine now.

X2. It's almost always the contacts, and it is pretty common, probably because they are geting pretty old now.

Cheap to fix if you do it yourself. Several threads on here about it.

And that problem is common to ALL starters that use that engineeering. It works well but of course things wear over time. Wei found out that some cleanup can fix the problem but many times one contact will be so eroded away it has to be replaced.

Something got stuck in my Denso a few years back where it wouldn't stop trying to start. Probably about 180K or so but that's a very rough guess.

I think it's a good possibility that the problem for both Piloter and Mouse is still the solenoid

Mouse - high resistance or poor electrical contact, caused by worn contacts.
Pilot - stuck solenoid.
