And I don't know what they are rubbing on, any ideas? They rub when I go over bumps and sometimes for no apparent reason (usually when it's cold tho). The tires are size 185/14/65, I hope they aren't too big, they are brand new and quite expensive. My car is a 1994 Corolla DX with the 1.8. I'm hoping shocks, but I'm no mechanic.
Thanks
Push down on trunk or bumper several times if you hear noise it's the shocks. 185/65/14 will not rub unless you've mounted them on a strange offset wheel.

Haha! I did get down and look yesterday in the wheel well! I took photos then but inserting a photo is a bit different than I'm used to doing. I'll try uploading one but I don't know if the pic host I got will share photos. it's obviously rubbing on the lower end of the shock/strut? tower, (see the shiny spot?).
I couldn't see any obvious rubbing/wear on the tires, but it sounds like they'll be getting worked over. I pushed down and released the back of the car and my friend said it looks like the shocks are bad. I'm open to anything. I'm wondering if Angelfire is gonna share this photo.
If it don't publish, here it is at my Photobucket. When your there, I think you can click it to make it bigger. - I'm wondering if that car has struts all the way around or just on the front. I haven't seen any rubbing marks on the inner fenders.
Thanks all

Reason: fixed picture links
185/65/14 is factory correct size for the DX, and stock ride height on decent shocks should have at least an inch and a half between the tops of the tires and the wheelwells. If your car looks 'slammed', or if you can push down on a corner with your foot and the corner bounces more than once-and-a-wobble when you let go, it's probably a suspension issue.
Of course the best way to check is to roll your windows down. If the tires really are scraping the wheelwells or suspension components, you'll smell the burnt rubber immediately.

My front left rubs on the inner fender when I turn and I smell no burnt rubber.
I'm running some big meaty ass snow tires though lol

Eek! I hope a spring isn't broke! That's a big money repair there! In this photo, it shows the ride height of the rear, in the next post, it shows the ride height of the front, quite a bit of difference it seems.
Here's a link to my photobucket that shows all four tires, it goes rear front rear front in the lineup of photos in there I think. You can tell fronts, they have the signals in the photos. - http://smg.photobucket.com/upload/al...otanationposts Another description of that earlier photo is not really "shiny" but the close blackest area above the tire in that photo. Here is a sideview of the rear if photobucket is gonna be sharing photos some more. -
My DX has got some pretty good Goodyear meats on it too.
Does the ride height in the rear look normal?
Thanks
spring isn't broken, the isolator is swollen and pushed out.
not uncommon for a tire to rub the fender lip when the rear struts are worn. Very hard to see, look for tiny cuts on the shoulder of the tire and paint missing on the fender inner lip.
IMPOSSIBLE for the tire to rub the spring perch with factory wheels and tires.
A broken spring isnt big bucks, but it takes a little labor to install. For the isolator to be pushed out means something isnt sitting the way it should be.
Forget the ride height thing and tell us what you found making the noise.
