So, I finally have an excuse to get a new exhaust! I was driving to pick up a friend then I noticed the exhaust was loose..I figured it was a common gasket leak or something, but no...I made it to pick up my buddy but on the way back, my exhaust completely broke at the cat converter and the header pipe. Was very LOUD!!! but i could still here the pinging sound of my exhaust scraping the road. I pulled over immediately to look...In a panic i shut the car off and was ready to call a tow truck to take it strait to the shop...but I calmed down and looked closer and seen I had a 1 inch clearance so i decided to drive it the extra 5 km home.. Luckily It didnt bust off completely and rip the bottom of my car apart...was a bit of a gamble.
So Im going to replace the whole exhaust. Thinking about OBX headers and converter, Not sure what to get for the back exhaust though? I dont mind the ricey sound.
Also, what is that tube/sensor that is holding my exhaust up in these pics? I should probably replace that too lol
If you don't want to draw attention to yourself then I'd suggest going for a high-flow baffled muffler, such as Dynomax or Flowmaster etc. Going for a canon style muffler will typically make your car sound very loud, and since your Corolla is an automatic you'll hear every single droning gear change, which doesn't sound good in my opinion. So if you want to keep things loud enough to sound sporty but quiet enough to not attract attention to yourself and have people shake their head in disgust, stick with a sensibly sized baffled muffler and install a few decently size resonators to help tone things down a bit.

Yea, it wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt an automatic! but, this may be a great way to pay back all the big truck drivers around here..Im gettin sick of hearin big loud slow trucks chugging down the road. My neighbor owns a dodge hemi lol

Haha, fair enough. It all comes down to personal preference, but if there's one thing I can't stand it's the sound of an automatic with a large muffler driving down the road going bah...wahh....worrr

1. Don't bother with the OBX crap, it's the same header as is sold on ebay for $100 or $50. All the same from the same factories, just marked up and branded differently for different whole sale buyers to retail.
2. Leave the cat in place, replace the factory resonator with a larger one or double up on resonators.
3. At that point, muffler is just a matter of what looks best to you. You could even omit it all together and just run a pipe back, but drone on the highway around 3000rpm gets loud in the cabin. If you do want a muffler I suggest a Magnaflow or similar chambered muffler to keep the tone low.
Ok, Thanks for the tips, Ill save some money and go for a cheap ebay header. I dont think I can leave the cat in place though lol http://www.cardomain.com/gallery/15502691
