Replacing fuel filter and timing belt

I am pretty handy, but these two make me a bit anxious. I have seen people incorrectly replace fuel related items and end up with engine fire. Not often though.

Are there any tips on this one, from previous ppl. here that have done it. Sometimes, the Haynes manual as good as it is, is lacking.

I am also considering replacing my own timing belt but that one look real challenging. I have rebuilt the front suspension of my car but nothing major engine related.

Is timing belt tough or am I overly concerned?

Fuel pump: you won't have problem specially if you have small hands you need your wrenches&ratchet and suckets and extensions Use your floor jack and stands and take out the tire. life will be much easier. I unscrewed from top( two bolts) then bottom. I remember I was thinking maybe it was better doing first bottom than upper horizental bolts. There are seals ( or just one washer i don't remember exactly) don't forget them. I didn't pay attention and didn'treplace that, it comes with new filter.

timing belt; No idea I have not done myself
good luck

I just joined this forum to help my son,
the DIY on the timing belt (at this forum) for the timing belt is one of the best Ive seen and better than any manual we have looked at.
I beleive if you have good skills, and print tha DIY and use it and a good manual youlll be ok

The 7th gen corolla, especially the 7AFE is probably one of the most simplistic and easy motors to work on. Don't be hesitant to try to do your own maintenance. I get so bored during the week, I could give you a step by step process. You have to be a little more careful about the 4A motor because those are interference motors I believe. The 7A you can snap timing belts all day and be fine.
