starter again

sorry for nooobe question

So I need to do a ton of stuff to my sons rolla, and among one of the things is I need to pull the starter on a 95 rolla with a 1.8 automatic

the haynes manual I have is way wrong. It all looks pretty straight forward and Ive done a search and read all I could.
My question is how do you get to the wires to get the starter off. can you remove the bolts and move the starter around to get to the wires.
wish there was a nice DIY and the autozone one does not load on my computer

The haynes manuals are pretty straight forward. But they use specific step by step details on removals and installs. It's been about 3 years since I've done my starter.

From what I remember you've got to remove the airbox assembly, so you can gain access to some of the mounting bolts from up top. Disconnect the battery, and jack up the front end so you can gain access to the starter from under the car. The starter should have your typical starter wires. Meaning there should be a couple of bolts holding the positive and sometimes negative wires to the starter, then undo the harness clip. The only thing challenging about it is getting access to the mounting bolts.

Thanks for the replies

yes it should be straight forward, the reason I asked was that some of the threads I read made it sound not so easy, and the Haynes my son has is way wrong, it must be a first edition. Even though it says it covers his year (93-96) and model. the starter removal starts with , remove bnattery from car, remove wing nut from air cleaner....... I knew right there the book was way off.

I really dislike the location of the starter for our Corollas. The Haynes manual didn't help much either. A friend of mine asked for my help to replace his starter and in the end we just gave up and took it to a shop. Got it done for $110. Keep us updated on how it goes for you.

Thanks for the tips
jacked up makes a big difference, except for the top bolt and air box.
disconnecting the wires was easier when dropped down. The tip on the bottom bolt with long extnesions was true.

now on to next projects

First thing is first, disconnect the battery. I've swapped out my starter 3 times this last fall. Took out the air intake pipe. I was able to get to both bolts on the starter. With a little stretching you should be able to get the back bolt out. Only takes me about 30 minutes to swap out my starter.

ALmost all Japanese cars have the starter in that location, and R&R is that same PITA. Not easy but not impossible either. My favorite wrench for when a socket doesnt fit is the ratcheting box wrench. Makes the bolts spin out MUCH faster than a regular one.
