My 95 Corolla's oil fill cap and owner's manual says to use 10w-30 oil. I have used 5w-30 with no problem. Follow your owner's manual. I have the smaller engine 1600 I believe.

Unfortunately the owners manual did not come with it... I've heard that synthetic oil will help the engine perform better, smoother and cleaner, but at 91000miles im not sure if this would be such a good idea....

No performance gains from using synthetic. You MAY have to worry about seal leakage changing at this late date.

Any oil engine ending in W-30 is fine to use.

Synthetic oil is a waste on our old cars with our old engines.

As said, 5-30, 10-30, 10-40 will work fine.

10w30 will work fine but may make it more more difficult for the motor to start in cold weather. That is why 5w30 is more recommended. Least that's what the manual says.

I would just stick with a high mileage formula conventional oil and change it every 5k miles.Save your money.

i figured i am paying about the same 40 bucks for a 5+qt full-syn with filter and changing it every 10-12k.

I pay way more for my bike oil (Motul 300v) than for my car. I change it probably every 11 months b/c I dont ride it as much.

There are tons of articles about synthetic vs non-synthetic it might be worth reading for those that are not too familiar with the different types of petrol oils.

+1

Synthetic = extended change interval
Conventional = regular change interval

The extra money spent on synthetic will pay for itself in the longer change interval. I hate going to the shop or doing changes myself, so synthetic is the way for me!

And if you get the REAL synthetic oil and a premium oil filter, you can even go further on your change interval (assuming you don't live in the desert)!
