Hello everyone! I decided that i wanted to upgrade my 97's front door speakers cause i feel they are too weak for my needs. My 97 model is only the 2 speaker system, so there are the only 2 speakers in the front and none in the rear. I've done my research and saw that the front is a stock 4" speaker but can fit maybe a 5 1/4"? Since my car only has front speakers, i might as well try to install 6.5" speakers for the best sounding. Have anyone tried installing 6.5" in the front? i know that there are modifications needed for this but im a noob at this and its best if i had steps and pics on how to do this.
Might install 6x9s on the rear deck later in the future as i saw 2 metal cutouts already when i was in the trunk of the car.
My car has the two speaker system as well, Do you guys know if they are pre-wired for rear speakers?
i looked under there there was a bunch of wires but i think they were for the brake light
okay, so to save time and frustration, i've decided to just go with a better 4" speaker for the front doors and add 6x9s to the rear deck. For both speakers, i went with polk audio so it might sound more balanced with each other.
So my question is in the rear deck. Since there are metal cut outs already, would i have to get a wooden board to mount the speakers to?
Factory 6.5" inch mounts with covers/grills (grey) available for a real cheap price if your interested. You'll need to cut your back deck accordingly but will give you a totally stealth stock look.
My car only had 2 speakers in the front too! The rear speaker wires were still taped down with factory tape, dont even think there were terminals on the wires, just taped. I had to look up the wire diagram to figure out which wire was which. I had to make a board to fit my 6x9s in the rear deck (and cut the rear deck for the speaker grills). Though they may go in the metal cutout depending on the size of the speaker basket. If I recall, I almost had my 6x9 in but the basket was just a little too wide. Good luck

sequoiasoon, rear speaker mounts and the clock... interested, lmk.
REN69,
Somebody else just bought the speaker mounts and grills sorry. Clock should still be there mounted in the trim panel. I'll look tomorrow afternoon and confirm if you still want it then.
Mine was also a 2-speaker system and it was pre-wired for rear speakers. The wires were hidden under tape. You should be able to find them after taking out the rear deck panel. (probably too late to be of any use to the person that was wondering about this but...)
I am trying to think of a way that I could install my Alpine 4" speakers. I currently have Alpine 5&1/4 speakers in the front door and Alpine 6x9s in the rear deck. I want to fit both my 4" and 5&1/4" speakers in the front door but I dont know how I am going to wire them in?
I also have 2 12" JL subs (250 rms each) powered by a Kenwood 2-channel amp (170rms x 2 @ 4ohms & 250rms x 2 @ 2ohms)
My deck puts out 25W rms x 4 channels @ 4ohm
Is there a way to wire in 2 speakers in the front door and have all of my front speakers powered by the deck and run my subs and 6x9s off the amp. I may have to get a bigger amp. Or would I have to re-route the rear speaker wires to the front to power extra front speakers? What should I do?
