Canada Attaching Catalytic Converter to Header

I received my ebay header and OEM Catalytic Converter yesterday and am just waiting for my OEM resonator pipe before I have it all installed. I tried fitting the cat converter onto the header pipe to see if it fits and it clearly does not.

The header pipe sticks out of the header flange about half a cm and the gasket that came with the cat converter is just a pinch too small to fit over the header pipe...but, I suspect it is suppose to be like this so that it can be heated or cooled to expand it around the pipe for a snug fit? and I suspect the header pipe excess that sticks out past the flange is meant to be cut off so the header flange can sit flush with the converter flange. ...I am sure my friend will know what to do but just thought I would check here to make sure I have everything I need.

Check out the pics so you can see what I am talking about.. Let me know if it looks like it can fit?

that should set inside the cat converter's flange. It won't harm anything to grind the lip off if you need to though, but the lip is there to ensure the two holes line up smoothly for the best exhaust flow.

Use a "donut" gasket for the front where it hooks up to the header. Use the flat gasket for the back. The edge of the header SHOULD fit into the cat but it sounds like there is some weld in the way, or its the wrong cat.

Do your best.

I had same issue, the cat has a ring inside hole, welded to it, that can be removed. It will not affect anything. I used a flat head to loosen the ring & remove it, header then fit correctly.

hmm, sounds like I may have to grind/bore out the cat converter hole so the header pipe will fit into the converter hole. The header pipe will not fit into the converter hole as of now. I may have to grind out some of the inner welds and some of the actual metal flange on the converter to make it fit..Looks like it needs atleast another 2 mm in diamter...ill figure something out
