Brake issue

I have a spongey break. Sofar I have replaced calipers/brekpads and reblead the system. the calipers helped a tad but not much change. I had the master cylinder changed out same results. the flex connectors dont seem to be bulging any where. I have yet to do any thing to the rears.

Are there any suggestions for what to look for? The shoes and drums were changed about 2 years agao. the breaks worked normally for 18 months after that. There was a gradual decline in the breaks sincee about 6 months agao?

BRAKES are SPONGY from either air in the lines or crappy brake fluid.

You could put water in there and not have a spongy pedal. Fluids don't compress. As long as the system is sealed and free of air, pedal should be hard.

Obviously yes, some brake fluids like silicone dot5 are more compressible than standard glycol brake fluid. And also obviously pouring oil into the brake system will cause a low pedal because all the seals fail. You could have brake fluid in there that's 20% water and 30 years old, still have a hard pedal (assuming you're not driving with it and boiling it). You'd have to have some real messed up shit in there, worse than just the factory fill at 15 years old.

I havent had any loss in fluid but I wouldent be suprised if they are leaking internally and not properly extending. water in fluid is not the issue. 2 different brands of fluid was used. I got tied up with some stuff and didnt get a chance to work on things this weekend. I plan to pull the rears this weekend and see. any suggestions on how to test and see if the rears are not properly adjusted & or clienders have bypass?

I was thinking of jacking it and then after the breaks are pressed see if the rears will turn freely or not.

rear drums should be adjusted to barely drag with the wheels torqued on. almost spin freely. Check under the rubber boots for fluid, if you have fluid in there you need new wheel cylinders.
