Paint and clear coat flaking

I have seen several 7th gen Corolla with paint/clear coat issues. Is this a common issue with this generation or is it more common with certain colors? I really don't want to spend dollars on the exterior finish. Comments please.

I think it depends on the owner. I read that if you leave the car exposed to the elements, such as snow, dust, hail, rain and excessive sunshine, the clear coat will eventually break down, leaving it susceptible to peeling.

Mine's been garage kept for most of it's lifetime and I wash and polish every few weeks.

Red was /notorious/ for fading to pink and blistering. I've had pretty good luck with black, but the car's either been garaged (in the midwest until 2003 or thereabouts) and now at least lives under a roofed parking area.

These cars are getting some years on them, and I've seen a lot with those problems lately. No doubt caused by the sun here. Plus I've seen several that are starting to flake off down to the bare metal.

IMO, white doesn't show it as bad.
