gen 7 ciarapatrice's 1997 DX BUILD

Helloo! Are there any ladies in here?!

I'm a new 1997 Toyota Corolla DX (1.8L) owner.. (June 2012)

Bought it from my sisters co-worker for $400 (205K) , had it for about 2-3 weeks before the engine locked up on me. I found this forum and saw that I may have burned some oil and wasn't replenishing it frequently.. or AT ALL really, I just had just gotten it! lol!

I've been without a car now for well over a month!! The engine went out on me in the 2nd or 3rd week of July 2012 and here it is the last day in September and I should (hopefully!) be getting my car back tomorrow morning!

Mind you I only paid $400 for the car... I guess you could say $600 total if you add tag and title. When it broke down on me I was just like f*ck it! The interior is WELL worn. The tint on the windows looked like it was put on in 1997. The paint is fading on the hood, roof, and trunk. There's a gazillion dings and scratches on the body.

The front armrest was broken so it's just open. The rear left door is missing it's arm rest. The air control thingys are missing (but the a/c blows good and cold). The carpet is ridiculously filthy, and I'm sure somethings spilled because the car itself has a distinct odor. I HATE the tan/beige interior and can't wait to change it, its filthy!

But I went online, searching to see what could be done with what I thought was a hoopty and I found toyotanation.com! I'm so glad I did! I saw not only how proud everyone is of their Rollas, but also the many, many options I had to turn this lemon into lemonade!!

So, I paid another $450 to get a "new" engine (125k) out of another Corolla, and $360 for the mechanic to put it in and change the timing belt and oil while he was at it. (He's had my car for a WEEK! ) Again It's been sitting since July, but now that I've seen the many wonders shown to me here on the forums I want my car back so I can start making it worthy of the many Generation 7 Corollas I've been seeing on this forum!

I found ONE picture on my phone of the car when I first got it. When I get it back from the mechanic (hopefully tomorrow morning) I'll take more pictures and start a BUILD thread.

I am a female, but I'm not looking to make my ride something GIRLY!! (NO Way!) But I'm also not technically inclined to work on cars myself. I can't lie, I have an idea(s) about what I want as far as looks, but I'll definitely need help with "under the hood" modifications. I'm not a "racer" and I'm not trying to SUPE my car up. I just want to "pimp" my ride a little LoL.

So here's my 1997 Rolla DX -- you can't tell by the picture, but it's a Dark (Forest) Green with tan/beige interior (bought As Is)...

I hope in the near future I can post a before and after picture, and shock myself!

Hope to see you guys in the Forums! -- ciarapatrice

HEY! @gold94corolla Thanks for your tidbits on CarDomain.com!

I'm off this weekend and Friday is a payday! I can't wait to go shopping and start working on my interior!

So my air intake needs a new hose (in the pictures above you can see it's being held together by what looks like duct tape), but I figured rather than buy another one, I could go ahead and change to the cold air intake system...

Is it a relatively easy DIY? I've seen some DIY photos online and a few videos... and it seems simple, but I don't want to mess anything up...

What all do I need? Anyone have any advice?

Oh gosh Ciara, I don't think I've seen one in worse shape! Every last part of that car is messed up!!! I wouldn't even know where to start. Mad props to you for trying to fix it up!

Lots of work to do, glad you have faith in this car.

Is there a reason why you would need a CAI? They don't make a difference in performance
