94 corolla door speakers

Hey can anyone tell me how to replace the speakers in the front door panel in a 94 corolla and what size they are.

They're 4" speakers. Replacing them involves taking off the door panel.

Pry out the thing with the power window/door lock controls and disconnect it. Pry up the armrest to reveal two screws, and unscrew them. Pry off the little triangluar covers that are on the inside of the mirror. Unscrew the screw on the inside door handle. Going around between the trim and the door with a screw driver, carefully pull off the trim panel. You can detach the inside door handle, but I find it easier to just stick it through the hole in the trim panel and not take it off. Anyway, take off the trim panel and voila, there's your speaker. The rest you can probably figure out. Be sure to check mounting depth when buying new speakers. You might have to file out part of
Toyota's plastic housing to get your speakers to fit.

If you want, I can post pics of the process, and if youre still confused after that, go get a Haynes Repair Manual. Good luck.

For 6.5" you definitely won't be able to use the stock mounts. You'd have to make your own.

it's not too difficult.... I would recommend getting a Haynes Repair Manual, it will make this installation very easy, and it will help you in the future. Ukrainian's description was very good. Once you get to where Ukrainian left off, you need to take the plastic mount/housing out... it's 3 screws I believe. Then take the speaker out of it.... 4 scews and possible glue or sealant. Then just go backwards. You really don't need pictures to do it. Just follow Ukrainian's instructions, and if you get stuck, get on here and ask.

I'll try putting up pics man. It's no problem. Just remember, go easy, never force anything too much. Toyota is full of those plastic little pins that break of you pry too hard.

Read above directions and follow corresponding pics.

First things first...

Next the mirror thing...

Unscrew the door handle screw. Pull out as shown, do not detach from lock mechanism.

Pry up armrest then screw out 2 screws underneath it.

Pry around outer edge, don't just pull on the armrest like my dumbass self. When you feel everything come loose, remove it by pulling it up and out (to clear the lock thingy).

This is important... careful with dis shiznit!

If yo wack-ass deala has been taking apart your door and taping the watershield up with masking tape, tell that cracka to go to hell and use mailing tape instead. w00t! Mailing tape is teh l33t!

If you're puttin in some serious sound like me (Infinity rulez!), you might need to cut the watershield or something to place your stuff. Just (mailing) tape it back up when youre done.

Take out speaker, disconnect useless Toyota connector.

Try fitting your speaker in place of the stock one. Chances are you'll need to take off the plastic mount and file it out a bit cause there's a useless piece of plastic that won't let bigger speakers fit in.

Alright, put in your speaker, solder shit up (getting rid of the little white Toyota connector if you want), put the mount back on, etc., etc.

In the words of Haynes "Installation is reverse of removal."

Oh and last but not least, get all your friends that helped and take a pic. Add friends as needed (for example if someone had to leave early cause his mom made him and wasn't there for the photo).

You sir, are done. Enjoy new speakers!

(But check the min handling frequency on the 4" and make sure you have high pass filters so you don't blow them like me!!!)

But Haynes ain't color, unlike my thing!

(Well except the spark plug diagnostics on the inside back cover (Haynes joke))

Oh also, if you need help on which wire is positive/negative...

After the connector it's red positive, black negative (as usual), but should you decide to remove the connector, before it there are pink or blue or whatever color wires. Check one of the stickies in the car audio/video/security section of the forum for Toyota wire colors, their purposes, and their polarities.

For non-power windows, just work a cloth under and around the window handle and pull up on the cloth to pull the handle out.

For non-power mirrors that aren't like mine, I think you need to screw a screw out of the adjuster or something and then take it off.

Yeah, you can figure it out.

What has to be done to get some 6.5" speakers to fit up front. Can that plactic mount be filed out enough for them to fit and will they clear the window?
