Fuel additives

Do you all use fuel additives? If so, what do you recommend? Thanks.

Let's keep short and simple

Higher Octane = More Power. Not True.
Higher Octane = More Mileage. True. But, in city driving (stopping 'n' going) still there is a big "?" mark.

If you use fuel additives more frequently, make sure they are compitible with you fuel system, otherwise it may cause damage to gaskets and rubber parts.

Reccomemded is to use NON-ETHANO BLEND GASOLINE and Fuel Injector Cleanner once a month.

E10 or E15 : That's what we are using it right now
Gasoline available in market now is blended up to 10% ethanol into their gasoline products as an oxygenate to reduce CO and HC emissions as an octane booster.

It helps to keep fuel system clean from carbon deposites with a little bit reduction in mileage.

What Can Be Done To Prevent Deposits...?
For years automakers have been begging the oil companies to come up with and blend additives into fuel that will not only prevent carbon deposits but also prevent them to begin with. The oil companies have responded by coming up with additives that will help keep injectors clean but the down side is they tend to make the intake valve deposits worse.
The type of injector contributes to the problem as well. The pintle type of injector that has been used since fuel injection was first used is being phased out; replaced by a disc and ball and seat type design that are less prone to deposit formation. This is not to say that they never form deposits, just less likely to.

So bottom line is I would only use every 10-15 thousand miles.

None needed.

As long as you go to reputable gas stations (almost all are), all grades will have enough additives already in the gasoline. You will want to check your manual for the correct octane level. Best thing you can do is make sure the engine is tuned up. If not, an incorrect air/fuel mixture can leave harmful deposits in the intake system and combustion chamber.

my manual is chock full of typos and mistakes says i need 91 octane...91 RON which is like 87 PON. then the pictures and descriptions for the 1.6 and 1.8l engine bays are swapped!

AAAh, I got it, you have it as PON (pump octane number)
Which in essence is (Ron + Mon) divided by 2.

Bitter do you have a wire diagram for the E-manage to the 7a-fe ?

I have just finished up a 7a-fe build but I cant get the rpm signal right.
And it doesnt seem like I can controll the injectors...
Still testing the settings though.

Sorry for bringing up a old post

Choose a fuel additive/engine cleaner that states it is both o2 sensor safe & cat converter safe. The only additive/cleaner like this that Im aware of is Amsoil PI so if someone knows of others then please list them. I have used b12 and seafoam both of which are only o2 sensor safe so I wont use them anymore in my vehicles but I'll still use them in my lawn equipment.
