It would be interesting to see what it looks like under the valve cover.

I get the impression that the 1zzfe is quite worthy of turboing and supercharging.Since the oil problem may be related to too much heat transfer to the oil, perhaps an oil cooler, like on a 4age, would enhance the engine's durability.
I assume synthetic oil can manage higher heat without breaking down quite as easily as petroleum based oil. However changing to synthetic, after the oil consumption becomes a concern, would probably be to late in the game.

yea thats what i was wondering. if there is a problem with switching over to synthetic and how its done correctly. i planned on getting an oil cooler anyways once i turbo'd. im going to be meeting with a mechanic about this and also the main seal on my jeep is leaking and its way jacked up.

also i may get it rebored to 2.0.

Hi there
I am having the oil consumption issue also. So i am trying a product called Auto-RX. Apparently it is a great engine cleaner for your internals. I wished i knew of this stuff before i switched to synthetic. Apparently this stuff will clean your internals and even free up stuck piston rings. The benefit of using this stuff before you switch to synthetic is it cleans the internals and preps the surfaces in the engine so that by the time your done with the application you can use any type of oil after using this product. Just my 2 cents on switching to synthetic plus it might help with your oil consumption issue.

Since I swapped to a 5speed from auto I now have an idle oil cooler (part of my OEM rad) originally meant for the auto tranny. Is it worth the hassle to try flushing and reusing it as an engine oil cooler?

Re synthetics: True, and it's also better at washing away crud that's plugging up some other leaks, so expect your engine to drink more oil if you switch, absent other actions.

how many miles are on your car? my car sips about a quart of oil every 2 and a half gas tanks on average (about 800 miles). my odometer reads 141k and i have already made the switch to synthetic.
