A normal long extension and spark plug socket will fit. I've changed mine many times. Are you using the right size plug socket?

16mm plug socket is what you need for a corolla.

For first timers, do some research first (Haynes is a good basic manual to invest in), before you jump into repairs.

Then line up the parts and tools that you'll need for the repair.

Then figure out how much time that you need for the project. Then multiply that by 3!

Clear your schedule and start your job.

Be sure to set aside enough time to thoroughly test out your fix locally, before you run out on the highway.

Clean and set aside your tools for the next project.

yea well if you actually read the haynes book they don't say anything about using a spark plug socket i've been over it. It just assumes you have that tool already...but its been done for like a month now but thanks guys for your help!!

so what size socket did you finally use? I have a 5/8 sparkplug socket and it still will not fit onto the plug,do you have to push down with lots of force ?

Its a 5/8 inch long socket. Try to get the one with rubber gromment in it. Just be gentle and take your time with it.

I pick up a long 5/8 spark plug socket from Harbor Freight for about $4 on sale.
Worked well or me.
