how do i CLEAN the clear plastic of my headlights??

thanks for the advice! i was looking at the housing again and when i removed the headlight, there was access to the inside of the clear plastic! so i bought a scrubber and tried to scrub off the film that was obstructing the light from passing... even put some dishwashing soap in there... but the film was still there. the weird thing was that when i front part of the clear plastic got wet, it was totally transparent, clear, like i was intending to do when i tried to scrub it. but when you wipe a paper towel to dry off the front, it became opaque again...

i'm thinking that there might have been a clear coating that helped the clear plastic become more translucent?? has anyone ever heard of anything like that before?

Might be that the plastic has aged due to the UV and heat radiation from the headlights. Time to get new headlights.

And using a scrubber will scratch the surface of the lens..

Rubbing compound and an electric buffer, just like paint. It works well for the yellowing on the outside. If you really want to, you can wet sand with some 1500 grit first.

Meguiars Plastx, works like a charm, you can apply it by hand, let it soak and buff it off with a microfiber while applying some pressure

I had used a headlight refinisher kit on my marker lights, wet sand paper and polishing compound is all there, follow instructions and walla. Worked well on the marker lights, and the shop I used to work at had used it on one of their own cars and it came out nice.

I think it was about $18 for the kit (I would get 2 to do the headlights since it's a larger surface) but that sure beats paying (what is it now for headlights?) $150 + a headlight

I agree with PhatR. PlastX is good stuff! At $6.00 for a container that will last a lifetime, you can't beat it.
