Tire Decision 195/55/15

I want to buy a new set before going back to school (200miles away).

I'm stuck between these two tires (getting them in 195/55/15) -

1. Yokohama S.Drive (Ultra High Performance Summer)
2. Kumho Ecsta ASX (Ultra High Performance All-Season) - What I have now.

Just some notes,
- they are the same price at $68 per tire
- no complains with my experience of the kumho ecsta asx's except maybe road noise which i dont think will improve if i go with the yokohama's
- i have winter tires

Input, please!

I'm deciding between ASX (C$126 ea+tx) and Falken 912 (C$500/set tax in). On sites with review ASX seems to be rated higher.

midnightmach just got 15" knockoff rims and S.Drive for his 97.

- IOW $68/tire is a steal! I am jealous.

dunno about those S.Drives but I remember the ES100 sucked..wore out real quick. Why don't you look for something with more tread life if you're still in school..ok wait..ASX have long tread life. I had those but whjen they're almost bald..they blow out easily.

In my opinon i think the S. drives handles alot better then the asx in dry conditions. i just put the s. drives on my evo at the begining of the summer so i havent experienced it in the rain yet. i had the asx on it before i decided to get the s. drives and so far it handles alot better especially on the turns. i recomand the s. drives. im thinking about getting them for my corolla when i need new tires but im leaning more towards the falken rt615

Yeah I was actually looking at the Kumho LX Platinum on Tirerack. They are grand-touring all-season tires with 600A A tread rating. They're still on sale at Tirerack.com from $125 to $86 per tire! At least for the 195/55/15s.

That's a lil scary to know about the ASX's blowing out easily because mine are pretty close to the wear bars. I've only put 33k on em. I actually just ordered the S.Drives last night and they're coming in today. Hopefully its much better because it's rated pretty high at Tirerack. I think after these summer tires I'm definitely going with grand-touring tires for the long tread wear.

What pressure do you run? Those guys at cleanmpg advocates pumping to sidewall max and claims that wear actually is better at those high pressures. I pumped my nearly worn tires on the konig to 40# (Falken Ze512, sidewall max is 51 ), hydroedge IIRC is at 38#, sidewall max 44.

Yeah, the Ziex ZE-912 which replace the 512's also have a max of 51. I'm planning on having 40 psi front and 34 rear.
