Need a bit more info on what you are attempting to get out of this build. What supporting mods do you have on the 4AGZE? Cams, P&P, engine management, etc.? What is your expected power band - you want more low end power, midrange, or big power on-top? What turbo where you running before?

There are two different Volvo TD04 turbos - one is a TD04 the other is a TD04HL - the HL variant is supposed to be the better of the two. Both would be also be too large for a 1.6L engine, unless you have the mods to support it. Even the DSM crowd, have a tough time getting this to work out.

T04 - are pretty common for MKIII and MKIV Supras, again might be too big for a the 4AGZE, depending on your mods.

T3/T4 hybrids are your best bet - from the ones you've listed here. Even then, it might still be too big. This doesn't even touch upon A/R, wheel trims, compressor maps, etc.

Wazzup.. thanks man..

Ok, here goes I have the MR2 4AGZE motor that's 1600 16v with all the mods you can think of, Forged everything with ARP & ACL bearings, Cometic gaskets, I think it's got the original cams but what do you suggest. on the first dyno run I got 160kw on the wheels at 0.7 bar boost, 2nd run I got 240kw at 0.9BB & 3rd run gave me 310kw at 1.5bb & then she broke on 5th.. the radiator burst & head gasket went bye bye.. this was with the T3/T4 Hybrid.. i drove the car on 160wkw after replacing the gasket & OMG she was hard to control FWD JAPTOY - GP The motor is capable of 440BHP with a O-ringed block.

Hmm I wonder what I have.. mine must be the older 1.. with internal waste gate. Ok, in terms of size.. the TD04 is the smallest from the T04 & T3/T4 however the T3/T4 which is the biggest gave excellent results. I was told that the TD04 is a ball bearing turbo?

Let me know what else you have in mind because I am going to be building soon.. I have a German Spec 2 door M3 with 200hp wet Noz to hand a beat down 2.. gonna be tough in deed.

TD04 can be had with both standard or ball bearings.

From your description - sounds like the T3/T4 hybrid is the way to go. Can't really beat the fast boost response (low inertia) of the lightweight T3 turbine wheel side and the high-airflow characteristics of the T4 compressor side. They are spec'd to be able to support up to 500HP (ranges typically between 250HP to 450HP).

Given its popularity, you'll probably have really good luck finding parts and potentially good deals on this setup. T04E is another popular turbo - capable of big power - little on the big side, but they have been run on engine displacements as small as 1.6L, as long as you can flow enough exhaust to them. Garrett GT-series turbos are another - though they tend to be expensive and I'm not sure about availability in your area.

Hmmm I wonder ..

BTW 240wkw was at 1.0bb .. my bad.

Yes, I see.. however the T3/T4 kicks in at 4000rpm to 8 000rpm.

Yes, I have another ZE motor complete with Turbo app T04 Garreth.

Parts are not a problem, blowing head gaskets is I set the boost controller on 0.5bb so after this coming weekend I will know if it's the boost & the dumpvalve spring gave up so i'm losing boost on that end.

GT Turbo's are very expensive.. in any currency

Oh well.. i hope that i will come right this weekend & will let you know how it goes.. thansk a mill
