I bought the 2002 Corolla at 84,000mi and now has about 103,000. Oil consumption has been fairly steady, varying between one quart every 2000 to 2500 miles.
After exhaustive research on this well known issue, I've come to the conclusion that the oil consumption on my car is within the tolerable range, provided the engine is in otherwise good condition.
Hence the reason for this post. I yanked the valve cover and spark plugs, took pictures of them, and posted them
here. Please have a look at them and tell me what you think.
There's browning on the top of the head and under the valve cover, which I
think is normal. There's some whitish to tanish deposits on the spark plugs, with number four (last pic) having the most. Pictures for comparison are not quite good enough for me to tell whether they have ash or if the deposits are normal. Ash may be indicative of oil consumption, which wouldn't surprise me given how much it goes through.
Valve lash is within factory tolerances on all valves and the timing chain is tight. Any opinion you can render would be appreciated.
