Tranny Removal 99 Corolla

Sup guys. Anyone have any experience removing the tranny from the 99 corolla?

It's such a bitch. Right now we've got it mostly disconnected but we're having a hard time getting it dropped. Do we need to have the starter disconnected too? I was reading up on it and I guess we do... all engine mounts are unbolted, all tranny/engine bolts are disconnected, but we can't get it to pop out. It's about 3 inches off the engine right now though

Is this a manual or auto?

For an auto, you have to remove an access cover in the bottom of engine, rotate the crankshaft to expose all torque converter bolts, and remove them one by one. There are 6 in total.

Starter should be removed in all cases.

I hope by this time you already have an engine support fixture and tranny jack in position and ready to go.

Gotcha. And yes the tranny is supported by a floor jack and we have a transmission jack adapter we're going to use.

It is an auto.

having a tough time getting the tranny unbolted from the rear motor mount (or something) -- it's where the crossbar meets, i guess. it's real tight in there and it has a big rubber thing so you can't really get at it with a ratchet or anything. am i missing something? anyone familiar with this?

did you disconnect the linkage cable/bracket that connects to the tranny that goes to the firewall?...i have no idea where urs would be located (since mine is a 98 and manual) but it should be on the top somewhere towards the back...other than that i dunno...i did an engine swap on mine and the only thing i noticed that connects the tranny to the engine is the converter bolts and the bolts on the outside that go around the tranny...another thing could be the c.v. axles u have to take that out of the bottom rear of the tranny....but first(if you havent) you need to drain the tranny fluid...and im pretty sure thats all that holds it up there...
