rod knock?
I had very similar noises on mine; it started light, then got louder as I drove it for about 25k. Various people listened to it and had different theories on where it was coming from. Well, it turned out to be a spun bearing, and since I drove it I damaged/scratched the crankshaft; I'm currently rebuilding the engine. I recommend to stop driving it for a minute, drain the oil, remove splash guards, and pop the oil pan off to inspect the rod ends. If any one rod feels looser than the other, you've got a problem. Regardless, while you're there, its a good idea to replace all the rod bearings. This will give you a chance to inspect the old bearings, look for scratching, excessive wear, ect. If it is a rod problem and you caught it early enough, you might buy quite a bit of time for your engine by polishing the crank (where the problem is) and replacing the bearings. Detonation wasn't even close to happening on my car, according to my machanic. Hope this helps..
